Yeah, I'd figure a place like Port-au-Prince would even outdo Detroit in that department. There's always places like Mogadishu and Lagos that would probably make someone pray for Houston or Reno.

Considering your nickname, I guess you're Dutch?
The poll doesn't really make sense in my opinion, personally I find the nieghbourhoods where the houses are all the same (and The Netherlands has plenty of those) pretty depressing.
One point where do you notice a huge improvement when crossing borders are the roads, I can't ignore that.

I really want to go to Belgium someday, and possibly live there. It seems just so beautiful.

Well it might suit you great, but it just doesn't do for me anymore.
I hate the fact that it's like 1 big city without any broad views that aren't interrupted by buildings or roads.
In fact, it's extremely packed with roads: about 6.5 miles of roads per square mile. Number 1 of the world, but I don't consider it as something we should be proud of.

As for the poll: I think Melbourne must be very pretty. But the prettiest? I don't have a clue. As for the ugliest.

Athens is extremely ugly, imo.

Can't say I've seen enough of the world to say which city is "prettiest" - Berlin has some very nice architecture, both modern and ancient. Very useful public transportation system, inner city traffic isn't that bad.
