I have never been to Europe before and will be moving there in a few months.
I am SO excited and really looking forward to this new experience.
I would love to hear some ideas, tips, opinions (both good and bad) about anyones experience in Sicily & Italy.
Thanks

Sicily is meant to be beautiful and I hope you enjoy it.
I come from northern Italy and I have never lived there, but if Sicily is anything like the rest of the Country you need to be aware that the rythm of life is very different than in the States and things do not happen at the same speed. If you need something fixed, for example, it may take much longer than what you are used to and this can be quite frustrating.
So be prepared to be very patient. For the rest, have a great experience

Hi,
That is wonderful for you, you must be very excited where are you moving from and how are you winding up all the way in Italy? Do you speak Italian? I lived in Italy when I was a young girl, so I don't remember to much. I'm sure you will get use to the customs very easily. May God bless your new life.
I meet someone on another forum who can better answer your question she lives in Italy, Milan. Her name is Laura (minnie mouse) she is a great person to talk to. You can find her in OTHER TOPICS ( community chat ) .
Much happiness,
maria

Thanks for ALL of the helpful info & thoughtful words. We are moving from Jacksonville FL to Sigonella Sicily. My husband is in the military so the job will be taking us on this adventure.
I know a few Italian words and a few more Spanish ones. My husband is Latino so hopefully that will help us out.
Maria - Thanks for the info about Laura. I will most def look into that.
Thanks again everyone.

Sigonella
I was stationed at Sigonella from 87 - 89. Although I am sure alot has changed, I'm sure that alot is still the same. I lived in the neighboring town of Motta Santa Anastasia which is 20 min from NAS I. Motta is a nice town with LOTS of other Americans living there. Local restaurants are quite good. When I was there I took lots of weekend road trips. Probably my favorite place to go was the town of Enna which is in the middle of the island. Actually Enna is two towns... Enna Baso which is at the foothills of the mountain and Enna Terra which is at the top. In Enna Terra is this huge castle where they have restored one of the towers. It is said when the air is clear you can see one end of the island to the other. Other places I enjoyed were Taormina and Agrigento. The big city of Catania is also very close but it was kind of on the dirty side. St Agatha's cathedral is in Catania which is cool though. If you and your husband want to burn some leave time, Malta is very easy to get to from Sicily.

Daughter moving to Sigonella
HI Knleon15,
How is it that you are going to Sigonellal? My daughter, who is 22, just got out of A School, and got her orders for Sigonella. She'll be leaving on April 2 or 3 and was told she'll be there for 3 years. I also would love to hear from someone about what she can expect or tips on how to become accustomed to living there. Favorite restaurants, shops, places on base...etc.
I'm sure it will be a great experience..I wish she were going with someone else, but as of now she's the only one scheduled for Italy out of over 400 who are graduating from the IT program. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!

Sigonella is beautiful....it's on the east side of the Island, amazing access to the ocean and the views are awesome. My dad's family is from Sicily and my moms family is from Northern Italy....I try to get out there at least once a year and it seems like it never changes. The biggest thing, for me anyway, is that they NEVER have ice.....weird I know....they believe it waters everything down so they serve everything like, room temperature....that's my only complaint. Visit the local grape gardens.....awesome!!!
Have fun!!!

help!
So I currently live in California, and I have a cosmetology license here.. I'm moving to Sigonella Sicily with my boyfriend who is in the military. I want to continue with my hairdressing career.. Do I have to go to school there to get a license to work overseas? Can I intern? I have so many questions, and concerns.. I don't speak the language.. I need to start working on that! Any answers would be amazing!! Thank you so much!
