Default Immigration, oh the drama!

I am married but my husband is not a US citizen. Moving to his country is not a good solution to us being apart because his is a war torn country. Due to immigration issues in the US, I am eventually going to be forced to leave the US to stay with my husband. (long story)
I've looked into where I'd like to go and all the laws seem like the US. Spain is in the EU, so the laws are tough. Going to the UK is hard for an American to do to live and work. My ancestry dates too far back for any ancestrial immigration (such as what they have in Ireland).
I am looking for a place that is safe that my husband and I can just move there and start our life over. I work in IT (but I dont have a degree) and he works in construction.
Any ideas for decent places that have "lenient" immigration laws so we can work and live?
Thanks

Really? LOL

Immigration to Canada requires considerable paperwork, hoopla, time and money.

All the details can be found at www.cic.gc.ca

Canada also has a HUGE backlog of almost a million people.

Many of the countries you've mentioned go by a "points system", and without a degree, it will make your attempt at applying very difficult.

Depending on what your definition of decent is, you may be surprised at this wonderful place called South Africa. Immigrating there is very lenient compared to many countries, it's a developed nation surrounded by utter beauty, and it's not uncommon to find many other western ex-pats living there (eg. over 200,000 Britons live there).

Thanks for the info. I've actually found a website called Overseas Digest and it did give good info about Brazil. I don't know if they'd hire me for work for IT without a degree but it can be worth a shot Singapore also looked a bit inviting judging from this website. But I will have to check further on embassies websites as you never know how old info is on an external website ya know? I have heard many expats live in South Africa but isnt it very high with inflation at this time? Or maybe I'm thinking of another country. France is in the EU which makes it all the tougher I'm afraid

And the further I look, the more I do see Canada may have less red tape than the US, but I think the rest of the world has caught onto that too And don't forget that many Americans have moved to Canada in the past 4-8 years as well.
