As you can see I wrote: "I have selected quite a bit here, I hope it's all of the biggest and famous ones..." so if you were wondering about this, I was planing a poll.
But I skipped the poll, so keep on posting.

Best?
It all depends on the individual.
I happen to love Berlin, some people don't like it at all. For me, the museums are great, the transport easy, the people helpful, the bookstores great, the food excellent, the prices reasonable.
I just returned to Prague, where I live, from Zurich. So expensive. I found the prices outrageous but the quality of life is high.
Paris is unique and a place unto itself. It is special, like New York.

Budapest and Madrid seemed interesting and atmospheric.
Brussels has a fascinating history and background, but always seems deadly dull as a city.

It depends what you like!! For the artist, "student forever" type go to Florence, if you want to be surrounded by beauty, urban beauty go to Paris, wherever you look you see bronze half robed statues of gorgeous women in front of stunning buildings, streets, bridges.. You like creativity go to Berlin, there is a strange and exciting mix of modern and retro here and such respect and civility towards cyclists, it's just unbelievable! You like to earn a decent salary, live a nice conformist life and go skiing in winter and sailing on mountain lakes and drive on Highways where people are courteous and respect speed signs to the exact digit? Switzerland is for you. Try Zurich first or Lausanne if you prefer French language. Geneva is ok but just a little souless for my taste..
