Default rent/buy cell phone for europe travel

hey all,
im looking to rent/buy a cell phone for use in europe. will be traveling all around europe and would like to get some information on what options i have on keeping in touch with the family. ill be gone for about two months and ideally would like to be able to use the phone from not only large cities but also some smaller ones too. btw, my current phone does not use a sim card. any suggestions on providers/companies that offer what im looking for? thanks!

You might try this link. I'm traveling to Germany this summer and will be checking them out as well. I have no desire to use my iPhone for the rates AT&T would charge!

I think they have prepaid phones in europe you can buy.

Personally I have a tri band world phone from T Mobile and it works in 90 countries around the world. I use it all the time in Australia or NZ when I travel there. Coverage is excellent and call quality is excellent. Per minute charges are expensive but people can still reach me overseas if need be and vice versa. I think my phone if I use it in Europe is about 40 cents a minute.
