Map out your ideal two week European vacation
We're beginning to plan our two week Euro excursion and would like to hear what others would do over two weeks. Ideally, we'd like to stay within the EU because it seems to make logistical sense (currency, ease of traveling, etc), but are certainly open to other suggestions.
Please share!

I would probably stick to the mediterranean because that is my favorite area of Europe. In fact, I'd be very tempted to stay in Italy and Greece alone. I'd hit Rome, Naples/Pompeii, Athens, Santorini and if there was time, Rhodes.
I'd spend 3 days in Rome and if possible, I'd see if we could take a day trip to Naples/Pompeii on day 4. I wouldn't want to spend the night in Naples because it would be another hotel to find and book. On day 5, I'd fly to Athens and spend another 3 days there. Depending when the flight got in, that would take me to day 7 or 8. I'd then go to Santorini and spend at least one night there. That would take me to about day 9 or 10. That would leave me with a few days in Rhodes.
That said, if I could visit all these places in a cruise, I would rather take that option. No need to book loads of hotels and organize flights and trains and such.

If I were you i'd go to Spain, Greece and Italy. I have travelled alot within the E.U and my family still live in Sorrento, Italy. Its a fab place to visit as well as Rome, Tuscany where I am going in 2 weeks time.
I do love Spain though, especially Mallorca. Been going there for 18 years. Also Crete is very beautiful.

2 weeks:
Prague-Budapest-Salzburg or Vienna (fly into Prague, train down, fly out of Vienna)
For something different
Latvia-Lithuania-Estonia (air Baltic flies from London to all of these places, again fly into Estonia, fly out of Lithuania. Much less expensive than western europe, beautiful quaint cities, nice people, good deals on handicrafts
Turkey, i know its not europe (though part of Istanbul is) but I did a tour with pascha tours and it was a great deal. you can see greek, byzantine, and roman ruins, sunbath on a mediterranean beach and explore the wonders of Istanbul - architecture, bazaars. People are super friendly, food is exquisite, quite safe to travel...

Fly to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. The Dutch public transport system is well organized, and going from Schiphol to the Center of Amsterdam is not a great effort. Stay in a hotel near the center: it's relatively payable and very close to all things you want to see, like the Anne Frank house, the Dam and more stuff like that. If you go in spring, going the the Lisse and Keukenhof area is worth the effort. The Amsterdam Central Station is close to the center, and from here you will be able to travel down to Rotterdam Central Station which allows you to take the fast TGV (Very Fast Train)down south to Paris. Paris is a must see for everyone. From there trevel down south by train to Southern France. then go to either Spain and Barcelona or Italy and Rome. Spend the rest of the vacation here. Then go back home and relax.

I would love to spend time touring the ancient and historical areas of Spain including Toledo, Grenada and Madrid and see all the Moorish architecture as well as the more modern aspects of cities like Barcelona. And maybe take a ferry to the Balearic Islands to see the less touristy stuff there too.

I agree, mostly because I have never been to southern Europe.
But I have lived in Germany for several years and have been to Denmark, Belgium, Sweden, Netherlands, Poland, and Lithuania.

...Amsterdam...Geneva...Venice...Nice...Paris...
Depending on your travel experience; use public transportation, carry the minimum with you, use credit card for hotels, pulse cash when needed.
let me know if you any questions.
