Wow. I admire you. It's really hard to get "in" Australia. If I may ask, what is your profession? My ex-h. got a turn down letter when he tried to go over. He's just an appliance & air cond. tech.
I was actually relieved when he was turned down. I didn't want to be stuck there with him.
However it was fun to visit there, inspite of the company I was keeping.

I know this is an off-topic comment, but I had to say that I like your term "political atheist," and I intend to borrow it.

I'd love to move to a European country-- Italy, France, Rome..around there and live life in simplicity and slower pace.

I wish I had a better one, one that required less explanation, because I'm not a theological atheist and it'll get old trying to clarify it for folks. (On the other hand, if I'm talking with someone about my political atheism then they and I aren't talking about partisan US politics, so maybe that is okay.) I'm also bending the definition, because I'm using it to mean someone who lacks faith, not someone who lacks gods. It is possible to have gods but lack any faith in them, for example (although that would raise the question of what was the point).

You do know that Rome is a city in Italy, not a European country..... right?

I've lived several years in Germany, South Korea, Mexico, and Paraguay and I've visited about 30 different countries during my life. I'm happy that I moved back to the USA. I would definitely love to be able to take quick weekend trips to the French Riviera or the coast of Spain again, but life is good where I'm at now.

I've always wanted to move to Iceland. I think it's quite a magical and unique place, beautiful and calm. Also, I'm extremely attracted to Canada, New England, Scotland (the whole of Britain would be fine too), Britanny and Norway.
Galicia is a good place to live: great food, lots of scenery, oceanic climate (which suits me fine), everything's cheap... But I'm fond of changes and i'm a little tired of this.

I'm not bitter at all. I'm just realistic and decline to delude myself about my country and humanity.
