Yeah, I'm ignorant, that's what it is. I'll just leave you to the comfort of your little conclusion, here.

If what you say is true, why do more millionaires (and billionaires) live in the U.S.?
And why is the Los Angeles area home to many of the wealthy and celebrities? They certainly have the money to live in a so-called "more developed" nations. You do realize that the U.S. economy is the biggest in world, and the economy of California alone is around #7?

In other words, the economy of just the state of California is bigger than most whole countries!

Economically there are not many places i can think of that would be an improvement.....a few exceptions, like Norway for example.
I'm a little in love with Vancouver, British Columbia. ( Canada)
In Germany i feel comfortable with the people.
I head to a small town in the southern Netherlands when I feel the need to get away from the United States for a while.

Excellent point, and one of the most frustrating things about the US. One hopes that the current downturn will re-focus people on what matters more than one's credit score and bank balance. I've had lots of money and I've had times where I had to really scrimp and live on peanut butter. In both good and bad it's wise to keep your eyes on the real prize -- your physical health, your friends, your spiritual support, and your mental health.

For me - having battled the rat race since i started working at 10 (babysitting, then Dairy Queen, then sorting Oranges for Sunkist, then jobs at university and in tourism, then then then...) It would be nice to find a slower paced life in a less stressful community. Can I find that in the US? Maybe.

It might be fun to take a year off and explore internationally before settling on one place. I've traveled a lot and actually enjoy SE Asia. But it's a little iffy right now in some of those places. I've thought of (in no particular order) Costa Rica, Argentina, Canada, and Corfu.

Who knows. Certainly worth spending a little time and money to check things out. I had always dreamed of one place (which I will not mention since others love it) and went to visit it. Only reaction - GAH! Decided that place wasn't for me.

California is unable to pay anyone their tax refunds right now. They are issuing IOU's as we speak.

I guess I'm doing quite well considering I live at the "lowest tier of the First World." Three cars, a 2618 sq. ft. house I own, a very good area of town, many choices for shopping and entertainment, etc.
But you DID reply quite well in your next paragraph. Living in one of the most spiritually bankrupt countries on this planet.
