I have been living in thailand for over 10 years now, BUT I would have to say I am confused as to what is happening here myself.
at one time, I thought it was one group of people who wanted the monarchy to continue existing. and another group who wanted democracy to realm supreme.
then, another time, I thought maybe it was the muslims down south trying to exert their influence with their muslim counterparts in the north to wrest control from the buddhist majority.
yet, another time, I thought it was just power plays by wealthy people in thailand trying to increase their pieces of the pie.
it doesn't seem to be any one of these. my guess is - it's a combination of all 3. but of course it is just a guess. like I said in the beginning, the politics here are very confusing.
bottomline, none of the above parties seem to want to hurt foreigners though. so, I'm ok with that. it's none of my business anyway.
