Oh they understand alright... they just don't care. In Cork they call themselves the Rebel County because of the part they played in our War of Independence (or Ango Irish War, or Tan War -- choose your own -- they were all the same war) and to show their pride *some* fly the confederate flag, but mostly at sporting events.
