If you're wearing a shirt that says "Git-R-Done" or any other similar $5 shirt from Wal-Mart that is also a dead give away

Most overweight countries:
World's Fattest Countries - Forbes.com
Lots of other fat countries in there...and I read somewhere else recently that Australia has surpassed the US in highest obesity rates, and the UK and Mexico are up there in obesity too.

I guess all tourists tend to stand around in clusters and look stupidly in all directions, with a lost expression on their faces.
But most of the things already mentioned don't cause any negative feelings in me, only the loud voice combined with a foreign idiom is kind of unfriendly, be it with Americans or Japanese or Chinese etc.

This topic appears to have turned into an american-bashing topic using as many stereotypes as humanly possible.

Unfortunately, a lot of the American stereotypes described here are TRUE One thing that bothers me about the average American tourist is how uneducated they really are. Last week, I was talking to a client about the state of New Mexico and his response was "Yes, I have not been to that country yet"

I could tell you tons of stories of similar ignorance from British citizens (about their own country). It doesn't mean it defines the entire country.

I have been misidentified dozens of times in Europe: "Typical Czeck person", German, Danish, French (Gawwddd!), "British Soldier" (ouch!), Irish, etc. All this whilst wearing Nikes, which make walking long distances more comfortable. When enjoying the nightlife, I switch to black shoes.
And a few knew me as an American right away. No big deal. I am not going to pass for Italian though.
Its not a perfect science, but you can often identify a specific person's nationality. Brits tend to be in groups of 5 or so and invariably are loud, drunk and have red splotched faces from the booze and sun. Germans, gotta luv em, will stand as firm as iron reading a map in the middle of the NYC subway at rush hour. Italians are impeccably dressed. French tourists are actually very polite and reserved except for student groups which resemble a pack of mosquitos. Canadians wear those nice flags, but you usually hear them first as they are describing their country in an accent forged in Fargo to some bored foreigner who struggles to appear interested. Aussies are loud, but in a fun way. Japanese are always in groups. Kiwis are invariably polite.
