Spain/Portugal:Suggestions?
I was thinking about going to Spain/Portugal for a 4 days in August and I am wondering if I should even bother going to Portugal. No offense, but I was thinking about flying into Lisbon but I have a bit of disdain for Portugal and its people, especially because of all the stories I hear about discrimination against people who speak Brazilian Portuguese. My mother travels to Europe extensively and Portugal is her LEAST favorite country in Europe.
My brother lived in Salou and Formentera and he tells me that Spain is hundreds of years ahead of Portugal in just about everything. I am very interested in knowing what people have to say about Spain and Portugal. Right now, I was thinking about Lisbon-Madrid-Valencia-Barcelona or better yet, maybe just Madrid-Valencia-Barcelona. Any feedback is appreciated

I don't know what that crap about discrimination is all about, but if you go to Portugal you won't regret it. Lisbon and Porto are beautiful cities, and I don't mean to crontradict your mum but I found the Portuguese people one of the nicest, most welcoming I've ever come across.

I've never been to Portugal, but the Portugese people I know are really friendly and generous.

Some people from Spanish-speaking Latin American countries have a similar image of Spain, migrant workers there perceiving that they are looked down upon.
My own view is, to be sure, Spain has more to offer the tourist, but it's mathematical, while if I had met the right woman when living in Portugal, I would have stayed there forever, and I still have fantastic dreams of retiring to a small farm somewhere in Algarve.

I'd definitely recommend visiting Lisbon and head North along the coast up to Estoril and Cascais. Of the cities mentioned above, I'd put my favorites in order of 1-Barcelona, 2-Valencia, 3-Lisbon, 4-Madrid. That's just me, but I wouldn't mind visiting all again if I could.
