It depends on how you define "worst country". I don't know how dangerous it is for tourists. I won't be one anyway because I refuse to support any country in any way that has the terrible record of human rights abuses that North korea does. If you could ask our journalists that were arrested there how dangerous it is and if Americans should stay out of there, I am sure they would give us a resounding "yes". Unfortunately, they won't be back to talk to for 12 years and that's only IF they make it through their prison terms. So people can defend North Korea all that they want. But I am not buying it. The counrty is run by a corrupt, rotten to the core, despotic dictator and his son is in line to take over. Slime begets slime unfortunately.

Well, I'm not a far left liberal...but if you want to define "worst" as "The Country that has ANNOYED more people than any other", it just may BE the United States. The "country that more is EXPECTED from, than any other country"?...that's the United States...And, when those expectations aren't MET?...very likely, people think of the US as "the WORST country in the world", as far as 'not delivering' on its promises.

We have about 20 million illegal immigrants in this country...almost ALL of whom felt life 'back home' was so bleak, so tough, and so unfair, that they voluntarily left THERE to come HERE. And now, who are they "mad at"? Why, the USA, of COURSE!..Few of them are angry with their countries of origin; THOSE places aren't 'expected' to be nice. Their anger is directed at the USA, because here, their expectations haven't been met.

Are the Iraqis "mad" at the Saddam Hussein regime, (that regime which tortured, dismembered, raped, and gassed them by the tens of THOUSANDS, for years)? Nope..they're mad at the Americans, for "invading" their country. Who do angry, disenfranchised, marginalized people all over the WORLD vent their frustration on? The USA. Who does Canada NOT want to be 'compared' to? The USA. Who is Mexico's 'dominating, interfering' neighbor; the one who 'mistreats' Mexico's people when they emigrate (illegally)? The USA.

North Korea may be WORSE; Saudi Arabia may be 'harsher' on foreigners; China may oppress its own people; and Mexico may abuse its own poor. But nobody's MAD at these places, because no one EXPECTS them to act, or behave, any differently than they do. PLENTY of people, though, are mad at the USA, because it's been asked to 'make good' on everyone's ideas of how things 'should be'.

So what's the WORST COUNTRY in the WORLD? In the mind of many ill-informed people, it's the USA. Not a very well-thought-out concept, of COURSE...but that's how many people think...even on this forum.

Next time you see a 12-year old in a rage, ask him "who are the WORST people in the WORLD"? Chances are, at that moment, he'll reply "My PARENTS !! THEY took away my CELL phone!". Hardly the definition of the 'worst' parents in the world, but to a 12-year old, it's close enough.

And to a far-left liberal, the USA could very well "seem" like 'The Worst Country in the World'....and that's close enough.

Perhaps not stupid, but the topic does lend itself far more to pointless harangues than it does to the useful exchange of information.

As mentioned in another thread closure, City Data welcomes and encourages topics that seek specific information or discussion on specific points. Catch all topics that bounce all over the map and result in inflammatory posts serve no useful purpose.
