I'm visiting those places:

SINGAPORE - KUALA LUMPUR- PENANG/LANGKAWI - BANGKOK - BALI - DUBAI

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, yes, been to many times. I lived in KL for 4 1/2 years and now visit every few months. Rather than Penang and Langkawi, I would recommend visiting the east coast of the Peninsula instead.

Here on the east coast we have white sand beaches, and the islands with the best snorkeling and scuba diving. How about taking the bus across from KL to Kuantan (my home) and then either going north to visit Terengganu state and its islands (Redang, Kapas, Perhentians) or going south to Rompin and then out to Tioman Island? Having been to Penang (and seen its muddy sand), I think that you would find the east coast a better choice.

In KL you should visit the Bird Park and Orchid Garden if you are into such things. There is also a Butterfly Park worth 1 hour of your time. KL is really a Chinese city (as is Penang), so if you want to see what Malay life is like, you can take a short trip to Kampung Baru or Kampung Keramat: these are old Malay villages that got swallowed up by KL's development. Village houses sit in a valley created by the skyscrapers. KL is noted nowdays mostly for its shopping centres and traffic jams. And food; still some great food.

On the east coast you would see real Malay villages, and people carrying on activities that their ancestors have been doing for centuries: batik, keropok production, fishing, boat construction (by hand, with no plans), and so forth.

Boy, I would love to point you to my blog about life on the east coast. You could see photos and brief reports about some resorts. But can't advertise blogs on city-data. If you are interested, you could search for "teak", and "Malaysia blog".

Are you taking the train from Singapore to Malaysia? I took a train trip 10 years ago from Singapore north into Malaysia and it was a great way to see the countryside in hassle free comfort. The train continues north to Bangkok. Malaysia is a very pleasant country to visit, very safe easy to get around in. I need to look up Teak's Malaysia blog about the east coast, which I didn't get to visit.
