This ranking is from the annual Mercer survey regarding the expected expenses for corporate expat compensation.
Surely all the cities in the top five are expensive, but definitely corners can be cut in many areas to control costs for the more average human being living less than a top executive lifestyle.

TRUE.
I am SO glad they took Seoul off the list. It was dirt cheap to live in...incredibly cheap.
But since they have high import taxes on foreign goods...then corporate expats who only want to eat peanut butter, and a million other things from American grocery stores, will have to pay higher prices for the importation of them.
Whereas other countries will often be saturated with the peanut butter and other stuff at competitive prices.
BUT...generally speaking..when in a city like SEOUL...if you eat korean food and drink Korean beer and do whatever anyone else does, it is dirt cheap there.

True. Just a different spin in this survey. Kinda nice to see. A few years ago, i was thinking about relocating to another city abroad at my firm and never saw anything like this. I had an opportunity to go to Nigeria or Germany. I decided to remain in the U.S.

weird. this is the first time ive seen a list like this where Oslo wasn´t included.
also, Monte Carlo (Monaco) should be on that list. it´s crazy expensive, though very little.
