Default Europe Competition: London vs. Paris

Which city would you rather live in, has more to do, entertaining, better living, lifestyle, skyline, etc.?For me, I like London better, because it has so much to do. However, Paris is very close behind. How about you?

Paris is my favorite city in Europe outside Scandinavia. I love the food, the romance, getting lost in the city, and...did I mention the food!

Paris would be great if you could live right in the heart of the city, but that's not easy to do. The actual city limits are tiny; a little larger than Manhattan and smaller than San Francisco or Boston. Suburban Paris is really nasty. I would take suburban London over suburban Paris.

The funny thing is, all those US tourists/expats only know a tiny part of Paris, i.e. the bourgeois arrondissements (=boroughs) in the center and west of the city, and wealthy Neuilly (where the American Hospital is located , where Sarkozy was Mayor and where, incidentally, I was born),
but if they knew the reality of what it is of living in drab concrete high rises with young thugs, mostly of African/north African descent selling drugs in the hallways , burning cars on saturday nights, scuffling in malls , and gangbanging girls in the basements -what they poetically call tournantes- and even whistling young women who don't wear islamic headscarves- maybe they would reconsider...

I think that we had a thread about this.

Well, London takes the prize for me. I love the nighlife, the diversity of the architecture, the lifestyle, its trendiness, the urban bustle, the mix of cultures from all over the world, the food, I really like it. And I find Londoners to be much nicer than Parisians. But that's personal preference.

London for living, Paris for a weekend holiday. Paris (central arrondissements) may be more flashy with things like the Eiffel Tower and Champs de Elysees but I think you'd get used to it and they would lose some of their allure. Of course I've only visited Paris so I can't say for sure but I know that London not only has lots to do but has plenty of areas outside of the center that are safe.

London. Paris is too chic-ish for me. In London, I had such a great time, plus I speak the language well (my language?) lol. I navigated the underground so easily, and can get anywhere with a snap. it's so great. I wish I could live in London, but that's far from happening right now. :P
