Yeah, what a shock! Chicago was gaining momentum lately too! I hope Madrid gets it, but I am willing to bet the IOC will pick Rio just because it's never been held in S. America.

Why not? At the risk of sounding patronising, if a third world country wants it badly, and it raises the profile of that country, then go for it. I can't wait for the world cup. Although the various budgets for that should be a warning signal.
Well done Rio. It's nice to see the lavish spenders of the IOC going outside their comfort zone.

After China and Brazil, I would have said that Russia would be next in 2020, but I see it is hosting the 2014 winter games. So maybe it will be India, then perhaps Russia four or eight years after that. Russia last hosted the summer games in 1980, marred by politics.
Not sure why London was chosen for 2012, it's the third time, a little boring, no?

I'm pumped for Rio! It's an excellent city and I'm thrilled it won. I think it'll be a great chance to showcase the assets of what truly is one of the most beautiful cities on earth.

This poll is pretty accurate.
To the taxpayers of Chicago, I'd say "no biggie". Let others pick up the tab.
