I don't remember the Sydney Summer Olympics too well, will this be in the Northern Hemisphere Winter of 2015-2016 or the Winter of 2016-2017 or something else entirely?

Congrats to Rio. Chicago made a valiant effort, but let's face it, the city wasn't wholly behind it (latest polls had something in the range of 47% behind the bid). Plus, the last summer olympics in the U.S. in Atlanta was a disaster as it had to much crass commercialism. So, the IOC probably wanted the government to back the games. It doesn't hurt that Rio is also a much more interesting/exotic city than Chicago. In the long run, it is probably a good thing for Chicago's finances that the city lost.

Default Congratulations RIO!

And the great up and coming country of Brazil. And I mean that as a HUGE compliment about Brazil. Your country is becoming a world economic power. I am looking forward to watching the Olympics that will be held in your beautiful country.

As for the continent of South America, I sincerely believe that Argentina should host a Winter Olympics sometime soon. Argentina is a beautiful country as well, and certainly has the huge mountains and plenty of snow for the event. I have plenty of Argentinean friends and judging from them, Argentinians are some of the most intelligent people on the planet. I would LOVE to visit Brazil and Argentina someday.

Anyway... Congratulations Brazil and the city of Rio De Janeiro!

Amigo! I know Rio will do a great job and I'm looking forward to seeing a samba at the opening ceremony! I think its wonderful for the first time.. a South American olympics! Maybe someday an African olympics?

I just hope the city spends its money wisely! Some Olympics make money, others (e.g. Montreal) took decades to be paid off!

Great for Rio. Would love to see a future Olympics in San Francisco.

I never thought Chicago stood a chance.
