I don't know about Australia, but Norway and Iceland are wonderful places to live indeed. They're safe, beautiful, not as spoilt as most other countries, people there keep to their own business yet are polite and it's relatively easy to have a nice and comfortable life.
Makes sense! The US would probably be a lot higher on the list if we pulled our heads out of our you-know-whats and put together national healthcare as these other countries have and better employee benefits such as paid maternity leave. We have a lot to learn from these other places!
Iceland is number 3 despite a collapsing economy, a bankrupt treasury, people leaving in droves and awful weather?
Norway is beautiful but the cost of living there is insane and the weather is generally bad.
The list is using statistics from before the collapse of the Icelandic economy. It's also not really meant to be "best" but is instead "most developed." Even with the economic problems Icelanders tend not to be illiterate, starving, or dying of tuberculosis.
Norway is beautiful but the cost of living there is insane and the weather is generally bad.
The cost of living is not that insane with Norwegian salaries. Cars, alcohol and tobacco are the most expensive products.
Norway is a long country, over 1,500 miles from south to north. Oslo, for instance, is not that cold during the winter months. The average temperature in January is 28 °F.
