Has anyone lived in Italy?
Any suggestions on where to live in Italy? What the cost of housing is?
I fell in love with the Lake Como area.
Ciao,
Swisser

I know an American (of Italian-Swiss descent) who has lived in Turin for the last 20 years and is very happy. I know other Americans who moved to Assisi two years ago. They too seem content.
But sadly, the only first-hand experience I have is one summer on the Costa Blanca in Spain.

I live in Italy..
The cost of housing differs a lot from place to place... In the bigger cities consider the price of a flat starting from 250.000 EUR... Milan, Rome, Venice, and all touristic areas are obviously a lot more expensive... (including the Lake Como area)
But if you choose to live in the province, you can buy a nice house for 200.000 EUR and you stay far from the traffic...
Otherwise, consider that houses in south Italy are cheaper... (I would say on the average, 50.000 EUR less).
In my little village in Sicily you also find houses for 40.000 or 50.000 EUR... Even less sometimes...

Thanks Loonwerk for responding. My grandfather is from Sicily - Syracuse. I love Sicily. But I fell in love with the Ticino Area while living in Switzerland Lake Lugano, Lake Maggiore - Lombardy area. I have been searching the web and the prices are quite expensive there . I found a realtor in Florence that is looking to find something for me in the Tuscany Region. Do you know any of the outlining cities of Tuscany? My experience in Tuscany is Florence, Siena, Pisa, I know nothing about the outskirts of these cities. Ciao!

Don't live in Florence unless you like being surrounded by tourists and people looking to rip off tourists.
I would recommend Rome.

I was stationed in Southern Italy at San Vito Air Force Base. I lived there for 5 years total. The Base is near a large city of Brindisi which a very vibrant city, Americans would regularly take cruises out of its port to Corcu, Greece. I lived in the town of Caravigno and it was very inexpensive and the people were wonderful. As far as I am aware of, the U.S. Air Base is still in operation.
