What is your opinion of Lyon, France ??
Hello all,
I am contemplating moving to Lyon because an opportunity has presented itself. (I am originally from California and currently I am living in Lille).
I know many people have good things to say about Lyon. The problem is, the two times have I passed through it I was underwhelmed. It seemed a bit sad,
(i.e., the citizens and the architecture) and neglected (graffiti).
Am I wrong? Have I rushed to judgment??
Do tell...

You will find graffiti in many French cities actually, so it's not specific to Lyon, and may not mean it's neglected.
I don't know this city very well, only been there once and for a few hours only, but I found the city nice and interesting. As for people, I've often heard that they were not very "open," but there again, it's something you will find in many big cities. The Lyon people I had spent the day with were very nice and friendly, and funny!
My husand used to live in Grenoble and went to Lyon very often, he loved night life there and told me it was really a great place. And there are good restaurants all over the city.
My cousin has lived there for a few years and he and his family really like it there.

(ouups sorry, alzheimer(lol) for an American, because the climate, continental, with hot summers and cold, dry, moderatly snowy winters, is similar to the climate prevailing in most of the USA, and very different from the Parisian climate (no oceanic influence).

Oh yes, you don't have to sell me on the weather! That would be a good thing.
And I should have mentioned that its not that the people themselves seemed sad. That was a bad description, sorry. Its more like the city seemed kind of quiet. I was there on a Monday morning in September and there were hardly any people in the street. It felt like a sleeping giant.
