Downtown Los Angeles is a ghost town at night, although LA Live has tried to change that.
Chicago is also very quiet, surprisingly, except for a few blues clubs.
Miami is also darker than you would expect, but it is different. There is something about it. There is a "pulse" or a rhythm to Miami, and if you are in Miami Beach, it is H O T. 24 hours a day.
Houston, Dallas and San Antonio are DEAD at night. Austin is HOT all the time, especially but limited to 6th Street. Denver, Phoenix and Tucson all dead.
Seattle tries hard, but is not quite there. Portland is dead, except for the people lining up at Voo Doo Donuts at 0400 to get
the best ones of the day.
Nashville, surprisingly is not all bad, especially if you are into the country stuff.
Paris, London - dead IMO. Rome - H O T 24 hours a day.
Buenos Aires - what can you say about a town that does not even start going out until 11 PM and in which you cannot even find a decent dinner place until midnight? The HOTTEST city on earth, with the women to match.
I lived in Chicago (downtown); it's not 24 hours by any stretch. Americans concept of 24 hours is skewed. I lived in Manhattan (chelsea); it's 24 hours in several pockets throughout the city. I went to college near New Orleans; the entire French Quarters is built for 24 hour activity (similar to the Vegas strip). South Beach is in pockets; similar to Manhattan but a much smaller area. That's it for the US. Now, on the otherhand, Lima, Peru is a 24 hour city. Berlin is a 24 hour city. Amsterdam is a 24 hour city. Paris is not. Montreal is not. Sydney, Melbourne are along the lines of Chicago. This is my personal opinion.
Until what time of the night do you see a lot of people on the streets of Berlin?
Which one of these cities have a 24 hour subway? Not even Tokyo (I checked). So I voted New York.
Yes but you're not really saying that New York is a true 24-hour city, in the sense of being approaching as busy at night as in the day, are you? To me, Tokyo seemed more happening at night in terms of a variety of activities going on, as opposed to just people partying...
