Why do people post about places that they have no expereince with? You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to start writing reviews for films I've never seen. Good god.
Of course you can get groceries at all hours. you can also go to the apple store, best buy, or pretty much ANYTHING 24 hours... because they're open. Sure, things close, and some neighborhoods are more 24 hours than not, but when you're sitting in a packed french bistro at 445am eating fois gras, youre def in NYC. You should really educate yourself before posting.
I've been to NYC for a considerable amount of time and it does slow down a lot at night especially during the winter. Amost every major city that I have been too had 24 hour department stores, diners, and late night commuters. In ATL there are thousands of diners (not all are waffle houseplaces where you can get tofu), entertainment, traffic, and they even cut hair in some places till 1am in the morning (just in time for the club). Late night Most of NYC is quiet at night... thank god... it'll be hard to sleep with all that noise that goes on in the day.
I hung out and partied on the strip every night till about 3 or 4 am. The strip is crawling with cars and people at all hours. The suburbs of Vegas are the complete opposite. They are like any other city, they shut down at about 10 pm
There are plenty of places that are even more "24 hour" cities than NYC (although not in this country). Forget Vegas, Im talking about real cities, not theme parks
Places like Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Tel Aviv--the nightlife never closes (literally, unlike NYC where bars close at 4 am) and people are walking around in the middle of the night like its noon.
Really, all over the world you will find cities like this. American cities are notorious for shutting down early. Foreign travellers are usually shocked that cities like Boston, Philly, San Francisco, LA, DC etc all roll up their sidewalks as early as they do.
Chicago is a tier above these cities as the nightlife stays open later, but even there its nothing like the other world cities I was talking about. Except on weekends, the streets are usually pretty empty after 2 or 3 in the morning.
Miami and New Orleans may be a bit better in terms of late nightlife, but they dont feel like 24 hour cities in other ways.
Seriously, its always a shock going to cities around the world and seeing tons of people casually hanging out all on the streets, in cafes, in bars, in stores, etc at 2 or 3 in the morning.

Las Vegas IS a real city. It is home to almost 600,000 residents. Yeah definitely not a theme park
