Depends on where you want to work, and in which field. Spanish is a safe bet, spoken throughout South and Central America and parts of Europe. Arabic if you want to work in the Middle East, Mandarin for China.

I agree, Arabic or any of the middle eastern languages, and Chinese.

Chinese more for the global business market.

Arabic and the like for defense type jobs.

Default Why Chinese?

I can understand that Spanish is a very useful in our country and in south america too. But Why do you think Chinese will be helpful in global context. If I am right Chinese themselves are learning English and Chinese is spoken in China and nearby country's only where economy is not very strong. What kind of career you were talking about thinking Chinese is a better lang to learn.

Well, China, IMO, is going to be a force to be reckoned with as a big global player in the business world. If you have that kind of thinking, that "China themselves are learning English", then you can also say that the whole world speaks English so there's no point to learn any other language anyway. There are more Chinese people in China that speak English than there are Americans that speak English.

If you were to work for a large, global corporation, and your interest was to work in China, then learning Chinese is an obvious advantage, ESPECIALLY the writing part. If there were two candidates with the same credentials and one was fluent in Mandarin Chinese and the other wasn't, who do you think the company would pick? I would suggest you pick an industry first and just a general interest in a certain language. It would be pointless to speak Chinese if you had no interest in learning the language or working there!

I don't know what kind of industry you plan on getting into or if you even have any interest in working in the East, but if you had no interest, then obviously, it would be pointless to learn it!
