for a country to be a foreign exchange student in, i am looking for a:
-european country
-fun for my age of 16
(and by fun i mean, bars, hangin out, good nightlife)
-very easy going
-not real bad weather
i am very restricted by my family in the U.S. and school. i have a high grade point average, work my butt off with 2 jobs, and get so bored waking up in the same place doing the same thing everyday.
i just want to have a break and be able to maintain a highschool credit while be able to have fun.

Bars? Nightlife? You can't be serious. No offense but what 16-year old has a "night" life? Lol. But I think the country that fits your criteria regardless, is Spain. One of those big cities like Madrid or Barcelona. They literally all party 'til the break of dawn. But I don't know what you plan on studying there. I think your just looking for a change of scenery, pace, life. But you shouldn't have to be an exchange student for that. You should go for a summer trip if anything. Check out EF Tours
They have all kinds of tours that you can sign up for and you take a trip with a group to another country and it's about a week long. It's very fun and educational at the same time.

I agree, I would say go to Spain and the locations he mentioned. Don't expect to meet "easy-going" or "friendly" (in the North American definition) people in the countries north of it.

Thats mainly since Americans tend to "expect" people to speak english with you. When you think of it its quite rude to just go up to sombody speeking a foreign language without excusing yourself. In many countries English is still 3rd language they teach in school. Nordic countries however are very good with english so you would probably do fine up there. And we have alot of exchange students in the larger cities so we are used to and like speaking english.
Spain you will have a bit of trouble with language, as with France or Italy for example. I would reccomend you to go to a place where you can communicate easily with people. Great Britain for example, och Australia (which here (Sweden) is very popular to go to)
As for night life, Its 18 to get in to clubs in most countries in Europe however many clubs chose to put age limits at 21, 23 or 25.
At 16 I would suggest you go on one of the many programs that organize exchange programs, then you will meet alot of friend your own age and they have alot of activities, and even their own clubs that you can go to.
If you are 16 and expect to get into bars, then I'm not sure your parents are so restrictive.
Also, if you can afford to go to high school in Europe, then perhaps you should save that money and instead quit a job.

Expecting you to know English is really not the reason I say that; my girlfriend is Swedish from Goteborg, I am fairly familiar with Northern Europe especially Goteborg, and I have consider the people in Scandinavia to be "cold". Not to say you guys are mean or anything like that, but that the people are a lot more introverted unlike people who come from sunnier and warmer places like say, a Spaniard or a Greek person. Americans like to talk to people they don't know. We think aloud and ask questions, consciously or not. On the other hand, it's often like speaking to someone in Goteborg is pissing them off. I've never gotten that reaction in Italy. Like you just said, you consider "its quite rude to just go up to sombody speaking a foreign language without excusing yourself", my girlfriend is the same. Me on the other hand? If some guy comes to me speaking Spanish or something, it's not really rude. That's how we interact, and an American guy is definitely going to have an easier time meeting people in Italy for example because the people are simply more extroverted and talkative. Blame it on the weather.
