For several years I've had the impression that it's a matter of perfection versus imperfection.

This is propaganda that has been drilled into Americans heads. No, most people do not want to live in the US.

The dollar is rubbish right now and has been for quite some time. The British Pound is much stronger.

I'd say Portugal or Spain because their ways of life are so relaxed and because they never interfere in the affairs of other countries.

Well if your going to say "Greatest" Nation on Earth based on what is has achieved, History, what it is like to live in, arts, science, education, wealth, military force, Health Service and lasting influences in the world today it would be Great Britian the British Empire has changed the world. The modern global buisness language we speak today is that of the lasting British Empire. If we were looking at everything, obviously America is better in some ways. But all round considering everything my opinion it is Great Britian. But if I had to choose somewhere i would want to live/retire it would be New Zeland the Ironie being it is the newest country on Earth with the least human impact on it. But not such a "Great" nation though.
