"Divan" is another word for a sofa, although I've only read it and don't know anyone who uses it.

In MO when I w as little we always called the sofa the divan. Now I call it couch for some reason.
Remember when you pushed a tot around in a baby buggy? Now it's stroller. I had alittle white wicker doll buggy I loved.

Cunucu, yes, I carried a satchel to school, too. Red and black plaid with a strap and buckle. Sweet memories. Thanks for your comment about your Dad calling you squirt, too. Makes me smile. i am 75, too. Where do you live or where did you grow up?

Dumbdowndemocrats on pg. 3--My mom said airish all the time if she needed a wrap(coat or sweater). She also added ish to a lot of other words and we teased her about it all the time. The sky is pinkish . . . that dress is a little longish . . . and so on. She passed away at 97 last month and I'd give anything to hear her say ish anytime she wanted to.

When I was a kid and had baby brothers, we called it the baby carriage.

I remembered another one
My Grandmother referred to the Vacuum s "the Sweeper"
So to vacuum the floor, for example, was "To run the sweeper"

She also referred to noise as "racket"
as in "Stop making that racket with those pan lids"
or to decribe "white noise" ...."I have to run the fan at night to make racket so I can sleep"
