Sometimes I sit in the quiet of the long night reminiscing
Not about times long ago.
My eyes grow tired and my body aches after a lengthy day
Thoughts are fleeting they come and go.
My dear one is sleeping his face shows no sign of pain
No tears no worries a small smile.
I think of our days together and plans that we have made
They are on hold at least for awhile.
He needs me now as never before and I will be here
for him always and ever.
To hold his hand to direct his movements, his direction
Guiding him his chauffeur.
Oh my thoughts go drifting away and above at night
Of our time we spend.
His laughter his silly jokes fill my mind with smiles
While worries I suspend.
Why him, I mentally cry some days, some nights
Why this beautiful man.
Does he know, or even realize the changes that have occurred
This was not in our written plan.
Again I gaze upon his handsome face while in restful sleep
Even at times during the day.
Just to absorb the shape of his nose, his chin, his eyes
That no one can take away.
My friend, my lover, my partner in all we do
My heart is light now.
My thinking is clearer my thoughts where they belong
I remember our taking a vow.
Together we will spend our years with happiness
and with light-hearted fun.
Thankful we'll be for our lives together we spend
Trying not to leave much undone.

Thank you, Huck. I hope it doesn't come across as depressing. Not meant to be. Alzheimer's disease has made many changes in my husband that bring these thoughts at times.
Your Dad's art is strong and brings to life the subject matter. As do you in many of your paintings here. I have so many paints, inks, sketch books, canvases, pens, etc. I really need to take the time to do more. Good for the soul....and mind! When I see yours it gives me ideas to get back to my pen and ink sketching and the other art I enjoy. You are an inspiration.

Huck, thanks for the Life Magazine link. Goodness, what memories. Of course I wasn't old enough at that time to be aware of all that's in it. But I do remember so much of what is in it from later years. Interesting and fascinating, the ads especially. And how so many of the ads mentioned War Bonds, the war in general and showed people in uniforms or working in war related occupations. And the cigarette ads!!!

dad and his marine mascot ferdy would sell war bonds. but that is another story.
to those walking in the light
getting involved with others is not always fun.
bargaining with thieves is less fun.
people not in recovery in fact practice a whole lota rip off.
they say you you you you then you fix it but what about their stuff, untouched and ignored.
then we get to the 10000 volts out 3 watts back part
then we back away and they wonder why.
