Remember Joey Tribiani on Friends thought "supposedly" was "supposably?"

We can add to that "supposively."

Unfortunately, there is a fairly sizeable portion of the population nowadays that thinks "supposably" is a word. I hear it all the time, and I cringe each time.

Does it irritate you when people use "then" instead of "than"?

Definitely!

(Or, should I adopt the more popular modern spelling of that word, namely...defiantly? )

I heard someone say that in the United States, if one goes to a hotel the person behind the desk might ask "Do you want a wake up call in the morning?" In other parts of the world, the same question is phrased "Do you want me to knock you up in the morning?" Oh, the misunderstandings.

To the best of my knowledge, that expression is only used in The UK.
So...if you don't want to get knocked up in the morning, don't stay at a hotel in The UK.

Absolutely. I wonder if they even know there are two different words.

That's hilarious! My husband and I are going to be spending the entire month of September in the UK, most of the time in B&Bs. I wonder if I should warn him in advance about this, or just wait to see his expression when asked the question.
