Funny, if I try hard enough I can get the gist of reading Italian and French, because they are also Romance languages (based upon Romanic origins, i.e. Latin).

IMO Castilian and Mexican aren't THAT different. Mexican just uses a lot more slang in comparison to Castilian. And Castilian Spanish has that annoying lisp on c sounds. And vosotros of course. HOWEVER, when I hear Rioplatense they might as well be speaking Italian.
