Default Creating a "fill in the blank" letter for students to fill out to a child in need

Hi,

I am running a program with 700 teen athletes, part of this program allows the athletes to do a community service program.

Part of the community service would be creating a "back to school supply bag" and then filling in a "fill in the blank letter" that would be recieved by a child in need.

I am stuck here.

I do not want the well off athletes filling in their favorite hobbies because that may include things the children in need do not do - like travel and play Wii.

Any thoughts?

Hi my name is_____________________. I am from ______________________.

Should I add favorite color, favorite food (which is hard b/c some of these childrens' families rely on food pantries...) maybe favorite book?

Great suggestions for filling the backpack, but I think the OP is looking for suggstions about what her student athletes can write in letters to the recipients ...

You could try telling them to not include anything that requires money to be spent - as in no Wii or iPods or travel - but going to a zoo, a museum, walking in a park, going to a library, maybe favorite TV programs, things like that. This assumes it will be city kids, of course.

If they're all athletes, why not list their favorite sport or two and say why. If these are high school athletes, they could also list what their plans are after high school graduation -- what college they hope to attend and/or what they plan to major in.
