My son is a trooper and the professionalism is tops! If you are looking for a job, I think he told me they currently have 15 or so openings.

Default highliner

I spent the first half of 2000 working in Utah/southern Wyoming, having daily contact with local and federal law enforcement professionals, and I can assure you that I met nothing but dedicated, top-notch cops. Too bad the scenery sucked for this southern-born old timer, or I'd have been honored to accept the invitation to stay. As far as quotas go, EVERYBODY has them, even if they are called something else. Just try letting your number of tickets (entered into system) drop below the average for your patrol district, and see how long it takes your patrol commander to invite you in for a not-so-friendly 'chat"! Every job that I've ever held- in and out of law enforcement- has required some proof that meaningful work is being performed, in return for dollars earned. For that poster inquiring about the quality of Wyoming's Finest, I'd say that, if you can stand the severe winter temperatures (I couldn't) , then you could obtain an excellent law enforcement education in the field there. I hope you find this helpful.

I think thay Wyoming State Police and each County Officers do a great job.

Being from Wisconsin originally and having two brothers in Waukesha County, one is a highly Decorated Detective (shot four times in the chest and lived to tell about it. He also ran the PERP off the interstate I-94 after radioing for help, he lost part of one lung but continues to enforce the law.
And the other the Chief of police in Pewaukee, WI. Also was involved in a gun battle with a father/son, who executed the Waukesha Police Captain after robbing a bank in a village called Wales.A Milwaukee TV. station accidentally got into the gun battle and I have a copy of it)
The last thing that I would like to say about my family, is that my uncle George Schmindling a Detective for the city of Waukesha was killed in the line of duty, but managed to kill two of the convicts after he was shot in the heart, He had true GRIT!
I find the Wyoiming guys the same as far as enforcing the law and place thier lives on the line for US the citizens.

Thank You,
Pegib

You have never met a Wyoming HP. They are the best bunch of guys/gals that I could ever meet. They don't stop you for whatever, but they will stop you because your stranded. They go out there in all kinds of weather, they'll dig your dumb butt out of whatever, but they are there.

Greetings, I recently visited Wyoming, received a less than friendly welcome as I traveled via Byron, Wy. I was caught speeding 39/30 mph. Oh my goodness........ A friendly local officer from this burg of 544 people. He writes everyone going over 38. He drives a Blue Dodge hemi Pickemup truck with lights everywhere. He appeared to be ready for an invasion of Byron, he was what I say fully regaled in full uniform ready to react to anything that would happen in Byron. My guess the town is very well protected and this officer could get anywhere he wanted to in his vehicle. I turned around and drove through the town in 3/4 minutes and could not find town hall. Some streets, with Main st. the main troroughfare into Wy. from this side of the state. I do admit he was friendly and gave me $10 discount for having my seatbelt on. My guess is that this is probably the most profitable industry in Byron?????? Just guessing!!!!! So maybe you could pursue employment as an officer in Byron, they may need some help patrolling the metropolitan area of Byron. By the way most of the other small burgs have speed limits at 35 not 30 mph. Wonder why?????? Good luck on pursuing law enforcement as a career, remember every town is not like Byron, Wy.

Excuse me, but didn't you say you were going 39 in a 30 MPH zone. Well, of course you deserved a ticket......you were speeding. It takes all kinds.

I think police officers have one of the hardest jobs there is. There are so many idiots out there. It's been my experience that most people who say otherwise are saying so as a result of a negetive incident that they themselves caused. Alot of people speed, for some crazy reason think they have a right to and when they get caught they complain.

My first job after grad from UW was as a social worker with the Gillette Police Dept in 1976. Sure, there are some bad ones but the vast majority are dedicated professionals.

All the contacts I have had over the years with the WHP have been positive. God bless them.

Cool Looking for Law Enforcement position/don't like snow!

I am considering moving up to the Hanna area and taking on a law enforcement position (20 years in LE in S.Florida). Only problem is...I am not a big fan of cold/snow. Is it really as bad up there as I am reading? Thanks for your input.
