Smile Camping

Hi there, I'm driving down from Alaska for a few weeks on vacation in Montana and Wyoming(yes, we Alaskans take vacations down states). I was wondering where all the good places for camping. I figure its summer time and Yellowstone is probably busy as well as Devil's Tower with Sturgis going on next door. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Big Horn Mountains, just West of Sheridan are a happy medium. You'll have the beauty of Yellowstone, but not the traffic and chaos of people all around you.

Either open camping, or there are several primitive camp grounds. No hookups on sites, however, there's a common bathroom and shower along with a water well to get water.

Lot's of room for hiking, lot's of wild life. Great fishing. And if you get tired of it, there's several lodges around where you can go grab a beer and an burger.

I've been camping in several places in Wyoming and my favorite place by far is by Pinedale. If you go north of Cora up on the Green River, it's in the Wind River Mtns. In a tent is even better because you can camp on the grass next to the river. It's absolutley gorgeous up there. The lakes aren't so great because it's all dirt and rocks, I prefer sand at the lake. Up in the mountains outside of Laramie up past Centennial is nice too. Just colder, and if your thinking about washing off in the river you better be a polar bear, lol. Hope you have a fun trip!
