Question Winter in Cody

Looking for information on the winters in Cody - how much snowfall and how long are the winters? You hear a lot about Wyoming being windy - how bad does it really get?

And is there any growth in the Cody area - residential or commercial?

Thanks so much:

Depends on what part of the stae, as far as how much snow and cold...southeast is milder, even just the whole eastern side is. Where I am, in the Wyoming/Montana border, we might get snow as early as September, but usually October. Snow may last until middle/late May. Wherever you are, you will have lots of wind. It is worse in the winter. I hate the wind!

I would disagree with DC53. The winter in the south east is not mild. The whole southern part of the state is made up of high plains. Laramie is on the flat plain and is 7,000 ft. There are frequent blizzards and is very cold. The whole I-80 corridor is known for bad snow storms and wind.

Yes, the wind blows everywhere and is worse in the winter.

Jackson and the western part of the state gets alot of snow and it stays all winter. If you are in the Cody area, the snow doesn't stay. We always get a chinook wind and it melts. It may stay for a few weeks but not too long.

Temps probably average 40 for most of the winter. We usually get a few cold snaps and it will drop below zero, but that only lasts for a week or two at a time.

First snow usually in October and last snow in May. In Cody we get several snow storms a year. Usually only an inch or two, but there are a few that we will get a foot or two also. But it doesn't stay on the ground long.

There is alot of residential growth in Cody. Too many out of staters moving in. There is some commercial growth. Not enough. There are not alot of high paying jobs either.
