We have about 10 or 11 shotgun pits. Nice club house with indoor range for pistols. Great bunch of guys.

Wow! I'd heard and read that the shooting sports were popular in Wyoming. I've never lived in an area as an adult that was in proximity of rifle ranges. To be close to such a variety of ranges would be great fun.
How did the club come by 10,000 acres? How many members?

Donated land by an avid hunter and shooter. Club is about 450 strong. You become a member and Pay $50 and answer up for 5 hours of service on the ranges. Raking up brass, building back stops or whatever. That's annually. We have a news letter. Lot's of shoots with great prizes. But there's not so many that it's crowded. Last time I went out, on the particular range I use there was only 3 of us. 12 stations available.
No range master. Just common sense. You walk down to the other two guys and say, hey, I need to change my target so when you guys need to just give me a holler. About 2 or 3 minutes later, all three people bunch up and walk the line to make sure all guns are safe, and then we head down range to swap out our targets.

An organization’s members finding ways to do the thankless jobs; now there’s an idea that’s potential is limitless. I digress.
That donation of land was extremely generous and an admirable act.
What a difference it would be to belong to an organization and use such facilities. My shooting experiences have been in various logged-off areas that were never replanted by the logging companies or out in wheat fields of thousands of acres with a hill as a backstop.

Great scenery!
Jgussler,
I just watched a couple of well-done videos and looked at some great pictures at:
Sheridan, Wyoming, the West at its Best! : Home Page
Have you seen them?

I’ve been reading some old threads and it appears that Laramie and Sheridan both have a unique combination of Old West pride/atmosphere/environment that they intend to hold onto plus a cosmopolitan attitude. I wonder if those attitudes come from the independent spirit of the people who settle in Wyoming.
As a wild kid when I lived in Cheyenne, I didn’t get much out of being in such a beautiful State with so much to do, but even so, there are a few fond memories of camping trips and fishing in mountain streams that I can clearly envision even now.
Yep. I like Wyoming.

Cheyenne has a lot more wind but less winter. It's kind of a trade off. It also gets hotter in the summer than Laramie.
