Me and my family are looking to relocate to Cody. I noticed that the population is mostly caucasian. Anyone know if there are a lot of issues with racism? Do you think my kids would have a hard time in school? Thanks for the help.

Where are you coming from? If you are comparing racism here to the racism down south or on the east coast then no you won't run into that kind of racism. There are bigots and idiots everywhere but there is not the overall feel or use of racist terms in Wyoming as compared to the places I mentioned.

You might do a search in the Wyoming forum. You will find that racism has been discussed many many times.

I don't think you or your family will have any problems.

I can't speak for Cody but I have not seen much racism in this state. If you are a genuine hard-working person you should be just fine.

I rarely hear slurs or issues race related and I've lived in Cody 11 years. My kids missed the hispanic culture we left.

I moved from an all black neighborhood near Chicago to an all-white neighborhood near Houston (I bought while still out of state~ didn't know).

We haven't faced many instances of racism. Just wanted to warn you that you may be in for a bit of culture shock. My kids are adjusting nicely; it has taken a while for me.

I do not want to discourage you, but prepare you.

Best wishes on your move!

Wyomingites are generally live and let live folks. While I can't guarantee you won't run into racist behavior, I think you'd run into a lot less of it than elsewhere.

While anecdotal, I had an African American co-worker here whose husband got transferred to Denver a couple years back. She said that she and her kids didn't want to leave since this was the first place they had lived where they had never been called names.

Growing up just off da Rez you see all kinds of it. There's enuf in this state to last for a while. You know they only tolerated us at the Father's Day celebrations at BBHC pow wow. My tires got slashed there in 1997. At the end of the 4th of July parade in 1999, I got spit on by some local kids - Sheriff Brewster apologized after that incident. He didn't need to, because it wasn't his responsibility. So, if I'm a little rough about this, it needs to be said.

Whether they can survive in Cody is up to them. I've had a few darker than me last only a few months to a couple of years - most have moved on to more serene pastures.

If you are civilized, responsible for your family, and your own life, you will be fine. If you are gonna be a typical northern entitlement hawk, then stay away. Nothing for you here.
