Default Havin babies in sheridan

I'm confused at how there are only 2 obgyn's in Sheridan Wyoming. I know they have assistants...but what if 10 ladies go into labor at the same time??? Does anybody know how good the hospital is...and how these two obgyn's are? I moved here recently and am expecting my second child around christmas. Just a little nervous...

Hell, don't be nervous. 2 obgyn's? Who told you that? My daughter just had her baby 2 weeks ago. Fantastic team of the Gill's. Dr Gill is one of the best in town. His wife also is one of the best. My bouncing baby grand daughter was born a couple of weeks ago and Mrs gill delivered it. When she was ready, they said so and so I got up and started to leave the room. Mrs gill said, "Grandpa, where are you going, you got the camera."

There is certainly more then 2 in town. If you can, call Dr. Gills office and get on their team. They are fantastic.

Hell, I figure I can do it by now. I had 7 kids and only missed two of them. I have 12 grand kids and only missed two of them. Hey, if you need somebody to watch, I'm getting pretty good at it. Matter of fact, I'm thinking of getting licensed as an official observer. hahahahahaha

You are in fine hands in Sheridan. Don't waste one minute worrying about it. These doctors in this town are very dedicated. I can't say enough about them. When my daughter had her baby, it was a Friday evening. Dr Gill and his wife both were in her room talking to her on Saturday morning. Saturday after noon they were both in there again and they released her. Had the kid at 4:55pm on Friday. Was released at 5pm on Saturday.

Your in good hands. Relax. By the way. That afternoon there were 4 bright faces introduced to Sheridan Wyoming. Yup. 4 kids come into our count. Damnit man. Now we gotta change the population sign on the edge of town.

Just call me Grandpa Jim. haha

Ok, I have the video camer charged up. I have several blank tapes. I have my digital camera charged up. Now, all we need is a doctor. haha

Girl, I'm giving you a bad time. There's at least 40 doctors in this town that have delivered baby's.

But I am truthful when I say, I will be there for you. Just let me know when and I will come over to the hospital and welcome your youngun into the wonder world of Wyoming.

We don't want people that have recently moved here to think we're not hospitaple. Seriously, if you want somebody there with you, I'll be there. If you want to meet me before hand, just to prove I'm not a perv? I'll set down and have a cup of coffee with you. Just ask anybody on this net. I'm here to help. We can't have anything bad said about Sheridan Wyoming. haha

I have heard there are some really good OBGYN's that deliver here in Sheridan...
My husband and I would like to have more children.. and I have a few new friends that had their children here and had great experiences... but my friend told me that the Dr. that takes care of you during your pregnancy is not always the one that delivers the baby. Sometimes it is a Dr. on call or an assistant. I know that cause her Dr. didn't deliver her baby. Some women that is hard on and others don't mind... so it really depends on your preference.

That only part that bothers me is that Midwives are outlawed here. I was very shocked and surprised by that. Midwives were always very important in rural areas especially in earlier centuries in the west. You can go over the border in Montana, and there is a great Midwife there that delivers babies, she used to live in Sheridan until they took her to court and forbid her practice anymore. Kind of sad.... so that is the only thing to bother me.

I had an OB in Oregon and I really didn't care for her much at all, not very attentive and more business than personal, and she was originally from Nebraska, which is near southern Wyoming.

Anyways I was hoping for our second child to have a midwife in a hospital setting, because they give you more than a 10 minute appointment during your pregnancy and never leave your side during the birth and are there every step... and for mothers that would like to have a home birth they are there to assist to for those as well..

Here is a link to a really good midwife that lives over the border in Montana if you want to go that route... Mountain MidWives Intro

I wish you all the best on your new baby

There are some really good down to earth Dr's here.

Ps. I almost forgot to mention... if you do not have insurance or have to pay a portion of the birth costs, the hospital doesn't take payments, you have to pay it all up front or get a loan. That also happened to my friend, that owed about 5,000-6,000 still after the insurance. So just thought I would give you the heads up on that. I was surprised cause in Small town hospitals they are usually more than willing to let you make payments...
So there are pros and cons I guess.. but for the most part there are caring Dr's here.

Kristy, I have to beg to differ. Course, I haven't been pregnant. haha but the Sheridan hospital as alway taken payments. I've taken my kids there several times, and I've been there several times. Most recent was only 3 weeks ago. Broke my knee, my left wrist, a finger on my left hand and a finger on my right hand, and my nose. Fixed me right up and said, we'll send you a bill. Obviously I couldn't pay it, so I wrote a letter saying what I could pay. Then 4 days later I called and they said, Yeah, we got your letter and that's fine with us.

I am glad to have your perspective.. I am glad they were able to take payments for you..

I personally have never gone to the hospital yet... I almost had to cause of an allergic reaction I had earlier this month, thankfully I was able to recover with Benedryl though. anyway...

I know for certain that someone at the hospital told my friend no payments, it would have to be upfront and suggested a personal loan... Her husband works with mine, and I think they ended up either purchasing an insurance plan to go retroactive some how or she got medicaid to help... it eventually worked out.. Where her and my husband work there is only insurance for them not for the rest of the family.

But all I know is she told me that wouldn't allow payments.. so that is all I had to go on, so thanks for sharing that with me, it helps to have another perspective and it is good to hear they work with people. Maybe she just spoke to a person who didn't have a clue at the moment and wasn't willing to help..? I am not sure.

I have a mostly good opinion of the Dr's in the area so far though, in fact I just saw one recently and thought she was great and plan on going back.. I am still new and learning but have had a mostly good experience..

Excellent. I've had nothing but good experiences. They'll badger you if they can, but they'll back off and treat you right and take what they can get. I know that sounds bad, but they do. They are good people being backed up by an industry.

Pg. women in labor are protected by the federal EMTALA laws...a hospital CANNOT turn them away - or anyone else in need of emergency care- for any reason, including lack of payment ability.

I work in the medical field. Hospitals try really hard to get people to get the loans so that they (the hosp, clinic ect) can be 'paid in full' but in reality, they can't 'force' you. They just hire pushy debt collectors. Also, when it comes to medical bills and you are uninsured, you often can negotiate with the hospital for lower rates....people just don't know this.

The system is a mess. Personally, I am all for national health care - we need to get rid of the for profit insurance companies who are inflating the costs.
