Evanston, WY- tell me about it!!!!
So I know a little earlier I was asking about an apartment. That's because I am in the interview process for a position in Evanston. I haven't made the trip there yet, but I was wanting more information about this area. I know it's got a pop of 11,000 and its and hour from SLC. I know it's in a housing boom and yet fairly decent cost of living. Other than that, that is about all I know. I would love to hear more about the city- the terrain, the community, the ups, the downs, etc. I have googled the city and found out some stuff, but it just doesn't seem to reflect the town very much.
Please share any info you have on Evanston!

Evanston? Dont Bother
I Would Advise Against Evanston. I Have Lived Here 3 Years. It Is Run By The Mormons And If You Have No Experience With Them, I Suggest You Run The Other Direction As Fast As You Can.
Its Ugly Here, The Wind Blows, And Did I Mention The Mormons?
Property Values Are Outrageous, There Are No Rentals. The Hospital Here Is The Absolute Worst.
Run Fast , Run Far, And Beware Of The Mormons

I've been through Evanston many times. I found the people there friendly, the restaurants I stopped at had good food. The motels I stayed at were nice.
But I would never live there. Not if I could help it. Every time I went through there, the weather was nasty.
If your a in building worker, and a in house type of person, it probably wouldn't be bad.
Last time I was through there, I was driving a new pickup truck. I stayed at the motel, ate some supper and went to bed. Next morning, truck started just fine. But it was so cold and windy, my heater wouldn't heat my truck. Cold air was all I got after a half hour of warming up. I had to dig through the dumpster and get a beer case and then duck tape it to my radiator to block wind. Then my truck warmed up to just enough to get warm air out of the defroster. We headed East. It wasn't until Rawlins that we finally warmed up.

The Hospital statement is now a relative term - I haven't lived anywhere the past 25 - 30 years (including Evanston) where the hospital isn't known as "death-central".
If you have money, Mormon's don't really matter - except that they'd like some too ... of yours, that is.
It's true about the cold and mostly true about the weather. Blocking your radiator is standard practice.
There are rentals - not a lot but they're there. Overpriced for the most part ... and Evanston, well, there's this unique problem - almost nobody has money all year long ... not a lot of work year-round and so, everybody's credit suffers - especially after a trip or two to DC (Death-Central, remember?) - so, nobody can get in the apartments and the ones with money already have a place.
I'm with ya Cactus - take your radiator to Arizona .... er ... wait ... New Mexico - it's neater ... but you're gonna starve there too.

I had to comment on your statement " If you have money, Mormon's don't really matter. Let me say that we do have the money, and they still do matter. They run all the business in town, Change all the city laws to their Mormon favor and treat everyone who is not a Mormon terribly. If you work with them they are backstabbers and try to run off the Non-Mormons. Our bars and liquor stores are full of them and they often come to Evanston to gamble on the horses. They move to Evanston for the lower taxes and Evanston is starting to feel like "little Salt Lake". We got fed up living and working with them. My big beautiful log home outside of Evanston near the Uinta Mountains is sitting empty and listed for sale at present. It is however surrounded my Mormons.

Thanks. It really bugs me when people are so unhappy with their own lives that they have to blame everything on everyone that is happy.

I know someone who works for KEVA AM Stereo 1240 in Evanston and outside of the cold and snow, hes never complained.. he says he loves it.
I like how people automaticallysay a town is bad and no one else should move here simply because they dont like it!!!
