Racism in SweetWater County?
I'm going to be moving to the GreenRiver/ RockSprings area in Wyoming pretty soon. I'll be coming from an area of California where there is a large amount of racism and seperation of different nationalities. I've already looked into the precentage data in the area; but can anyone tell me if there might be any problems I might encounter if I (Iranian) move there?...Your honesty is much appreciated in this matter....

You'd do well to simply be a neighbor. Not an Iranian, but a neighbor. Let me explain.
You move in. You first of all, take care of your yard. Keep it clean. Drive a decent vehicle. I don't care if it's 1975. Just as long as it doesn't leave parts and oil in the drive way. haha You visit with folks. You say howdy over the fence. You respect the children playing. Your children respect the others. You enjoy the block parties. By all means, make an Iranian dish that others can sample. You visit. You bar-b-q. You blend in. You are a neighbor.
Don't, say It's better in Iran because we ..... People live here because they want to and they love the neighbors for what their worth and what everybody enjoys. They don't want to move to Iran.
You'll do fine. Hell, there's a house two doors down for sale, I would love to have you as a neighbor.

I live in SW county and haven't noticed any type of racism, however, I'm a white female. So, my experience may not tell you much. I agree with jgussler, if you act like you belong here then you will. And please, keep a clean yard we don't need anymore junked up ones in Rock Springs, lol. Seriously, I can't imagine you having a problem, in RS, anyway. People here are pretty open because it's roughneck country. There's all kinds of people here from everywhere, in fact, RS's city slogan is "home to 56 different nationalities".

As long as you are act and practice wyoming customs you sould not encounter problems. If you Try to wear the towel on your head it may not go so well.

Be carefull
ReiGwenhwfar,
I came up here 2 months ago from CA. I look white but am of mixed blood and live the Native American customs of my grandmothers. I have had a difficult time to tell you the truth. I am accustomed to inner-dependance (working, living, together lifting eachother up). I have found and been told out-right-- Wyomians don't take to well to outsiders.
They are very kind on the street and friendly, working with them is another story. While some have the intelligence to see beyond the general attatude many do not and still feel "This is our land, don't come here. We trust eachother, not out-siders". In fact I have been told as much. I dress modistly, clean my yard and have no desire to buy land here, I have family to return to. I am here with a government program, believe it or not to help the poor, not to promote myself, yet the attatude remains.
A word to the wise, as my father said, "don't be where you are not wanted".
Bless You and Good Luck,
Pumasense

The first question to ask those who say they don't like outsiders is , where did you come from ? The majority of folks in Wyoming today are from someplace else !
