Default Kemmerer, Anyone?

I'm strongly considering relocating to Kemmerer and need a bit of guidance here. I have elementary school age children and am divorced, and am not sure Kemmerer is a big enough town for my children and me to even make friends in?? I need to relocate for business reasons, have a stake in a trucking co that runs in that part of Wyoming and I need to be more involved with the business. I am not afraid of the cold, wind, etc. just don't know if I will be able to find housing or friendly people? I am very outgoing, I just hope that people will like us. Anyone know much about this little town? Schools? Anything? Thank for any help in advance.

We just moved to Kemmerer last week. I am finding that the local grocery store is a little bit more expensive than in a bigger city. There is an ALCO. The town is pretty small, but everyone that we have met seems friendly. So far we like it. We are only about an hour and a half from Rock Springs, and about an hour from Evanston. I think making friends is very possible, if you are not to shy

Outstanding! Welcome to Wyoming. Grocery's are more expensive? How's your taxes? haha

You'll enjoy it here in Wyoming. Just got to learn to fit in and then get out and see the country around you. There is such beauty you won't believe it.

I found a place to rent in Kemmerer, a miracle considering the housing market there. So, on the weekend of the 20th I'll be settled in and can check out the grocery for myself! People seemed friendly and just being there for a day and a half getting business settled I made several acquaintences. So, I'll give it a shot.
Good luck to you, finholl, and lemme know via this site how it goes for you. Do you have kids to enroll in the schools? How did you find housing?

Hey, watch out for friendly folks. They can make you want to stay.

Well goatmom, I hope you and the kids got all settled in. Hope the kids enjoyed the first few days of school. We will have to get together and let all the kids play.

Default Relocating soon to Rock Springs...surrounding areas..

WE are a family of 5. Hubby getting ajob in Rock Springs area. Being a counrty girl and my strong dislike for subdivisions....(And having animals like dogs, cats and horses) i'm looking for an area outside of Rock Springs to rent. While i like Evanston, it's too far away for Hubby to commute. I too was thinking Kemmerer, but i cant figure out how far it is from Rock Springs! ANY info on any smaller town relatively close to Rock Springs is greatly appreciated. My kids are involved in 4-H and horseback riding, etc. I have 1 in H.S., 1 in Middle school, and 1 in Elementary. Youngest being in a wheelchair with special needs. Like i said any info would make me feel much less nervous about this relocation business.

Kemmerer to Rock Springs is 86 miles. Evanston to Rock Springs is 100 miles. Both too far of a commute to work - at least to my way of thinking.

Maybe you should take a look at Farson, or some of the other small town north of Rock Springs. Good luck to you.

dwilke is right. And if you are looking for a rental, you won't find anything reasonable in Rock Springs or Kemmerer. Farson is still a ways out there, but the roads are bad in the winter. You have Green River, but then the roads between Green River and Rock Springs do get shut down during the winter.
Due to a child with special needs and having very active kids, your best bet is Green River or Rock Springs. Green River is only about a 20 minute drive. Just expect that anywhere withing 100 miles of Rock Springs, you will pay a pretty penny for rent
