Default best town in big horn county and why?

sorry to keep asking so many quesyions about wyoming, but after hearing from some folks in sublette county this morning (about the housing shortage in the pinedale area, etc), as well as the same news from a poster here, we have now turned our attention to BIG HORN COUNTY...

can anybody tell me the best town(s) in BIG HORN and why?

my wife and i are looking for, as corny as it may sound, a mayberry / andy griffith- style town.

thanks!

Thumbs up Big Horn Mayberry

I'm just in the process of moving to Wyoming(still back in MS trying to sell house) but I was in Big Horn area in July when I moved my family to Casper, and I was really impressed with Buffalo. Seemed very Mayberry-like to me. What do some of ya'll who live there think?

I just realized you said Big Horn COUNTY not Big Horn country. Buffalo is on the other side of the mtns in Johnson Co. I still think it deserves a look. Such a cool town!

Default Hyattville...I think it is in Big Horn County

but maybe in Washakie County. Located on the back road between Ten Sleep and Basin. Greybull would be the next choice in Big Horn County. Take the shell canyon road up to Burgess Jct. down to Dayton, back to Buffalo and finally complete the loop to Ten Sleep and Hyattville. This route will give probably the top five scenic routes in Wyoming. For sure, you will not be dissappointed.

Cool Big Horn County

To, All folks thinking about moving to Wyoming

Wyoming is what America was! This is good and bad. I was born and raised in Wyoming and I have been watching the swarms of out-of-starters coming in and I must say I don't like it. It's not that they are bad people it's that they bring with them a set of values that are different and more often than not, we are expected to conform to them.

The area I live in is being populated by very wealthy people who are looking to retire in a beautiful place and their only contribution is money. While money is nice, what this area needs are families who are willing to work (and I mean hard physical labor).

Year around life here is hard work. The summers are heavenly and the winters are quiet and bitter cold. The people are honest and cash poor. Everybody works together to raise our families. People are expected to work hard and not whine!

So, if you are thinking of living year around here, bring your work boots and get busy. If you are thinking of just coming here and backpacking and whining about ranchers stay home.

Default Lee Snider.. good post

You expressed very well my fear about what is happening to much of the mountain west. I can tell how things have changed since we lived there 10 years ago, just by the outrageous house prices in areas that don't have a great economy.
To the original poster, why Bighorn county in particular? Don't rule out Washakie county (Bighorn Basin area) and town of Worland.

Default Big Horn County

If you are looking to live in Big Horn County I would recommend Cowley. I lived there for 18 years and its VERY Mayberryesque. The town has about 600people, it has a great cafe and a nice mercantile. Its a VERY clean little town with good people and a rich and proud history. There is a brand new elementary (built last year) and a new high school is in the works. The schools are populated by students from four towns Cowley, Byron, Frannie and Deaver. Property is selling very quickly in Cowley right now its kinda the hot spot of big horn county. Billings MT is about 1 hour and twenty minutes from Cowley for all of your "big" and might I add sales-tax free shopping, Cody WY is 45 minutes away, Powell is 20 minutes and Lovell is 6 minutes--so all forms of shopping (outside of what you can get at the Cowley Merc.) are not far away. Its just a very quaint, quiet and nice town.

Loved your message!! We can relate to what you're saying. At the present we live on the Kenai River in Alaska. We have also watched big out of state money come in and take over. Only our money seems to leave as soon as the fishing is over.
We are looking to move to Wyoming so our children can be closer to Grandparents and yes, we are a family that does not mind hard work and living and participating in a community. Not just taking from it. We're looking into the Evanston area (hard to leave the mountains).
Any input from you would be greatly appreciated.
