Chugwater
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can tell me anything about Chugwater. Good place to live? Bad? Good for kids? Schools, etc. Any information will be helpful.
Thanks so much

A very small town, not much more than a few stores, a rest stop on I-25, a Hiway dept maintenance yard ... and it's a windy location.
What are you looking for?

Chugwater itself is small, even by Wyoming standards. However it sits just off Interstate 25 and you can be in Cheyenne in about 40 minutes. Its claims to fame are the annual Chugwater chili cook-off, plus they made the national news last year by initiating a program that gave new residents some land plus assistance in building their new homes. I wish I could remember some more details, because it sounded like a pretty good deal.

Correction to previous post. I checked and the land isn't "free", but if you qualify, the town will sell you a lot in town for only 100 bucks. The program is ending however and applicants must have their home built by May 2008.
The town has details at

I've lived in Chugwater for more than 15 years. A few good people, but the town and the area is full of mean, spiteful and hateful people!! If it weren't for a business of mine and my work I would not be located here!! The lots inquired about earlier in this thread are all in town, none of them include rural acreages. Lots of vacant houses in town at reasonable prices though without the restrictions of the $100 lot program. The good things about Chugwater is that Cheyenne is 45 miles south and Wheatland is only 25 miles north.
