I have only driven through Cody a few times... but I have heard it is building up kind of like Bend has done...
I was raised in Oregon, my hubby married me and live in Oregon with me for 4 years and we both got tired of it and left... he is originally from the South, so it was totally different in Oregon compared to what he knew.
Wyoming is a lot more similar to the "people" in the South. Friendly would give the shirt off their backs for you..
I also wanted to say I am sorry about you being run out of Bend. I loved that area! In fact when I got married we went there for part of our honeymoon.. sounds silly, but we loved it.. but sadly the outsides came in and ruined that section of eastern Oregon and all the locals were driven out because they could no longer afford to live there.. I remember seeing that on the news before we left, locals having to move out ect..
If you loved what Bend used to be, I think you would love it in Wyoming... The winters are a bit different... but the snow here is dryer snow than in Oregon, so alot more easy to manage in...
Winters can have wind chills that low (-41). The other day I was browsing the record low in the winter, in Sheridan where we live and it was -36 or -38 I believe, and that is temp. not wind chill...
We are going on a year in Feb. of living in Wyoming, and we love it....
I wish you the best...

And remember on one of these posts, someone else told of their short 5 months in a particular Wyoming town - they said it exactly the way it is. People are all related to each other here and they will let you know FOREVER that you are an outsider and you are not welcome. Be prepared to be by yourself most of the time, with people staring, asking questions "Why are you here?" "Why did you move here?", stupid **** like that.

Drive slow
Byron, Wy. friendly officer drives a big blue hemi Dodge P.U., population +- 544. So it should be very safe winter and summer. Quote: I ticket everyone going over 38/30. I was guilty of going 39. You will be able to recognize the P.U. it has lights everywhere. The officer appears to be ready to respond to any emergency in Byron. He wears it all, so you need to be as friendly as he is. Best wishes to all in beautiful Wyoming.

Sorry, I would have answered if I knew the answer. I've been through Cody twice. Straight through. Can't get a good feel for the weather in that short of observation.

Lived in Cody for 8 years and I think the wind blew all 8 years. The springs seemed to be the worst and had some really strong wind storms of 100 mph or so. Had a friend who had lived in Casper most of her life and she said that she thought Cody had worse wind than Casper. I was raised in Sheridan and knew that it sure blew a whole lot more than there. In the spring I would get so depressed because the sun was shinning and I wanted to get out in the yard and couldnt because the wind was so bad. Wind was one of the major reasons I moved out as soon as I got the chance.
