.very fast northwest winds aloft will combine with a strong low
level pressure gradient to produce strong and gusty winds across
the laramie range and foothills...north snowy range foothills...and
northern carbon county through this evening. Another high wind
event is expected for later tonight through saturday afternoon as
a strong pacific cold front and upper level weather disturbance
sweep southeast across the region. The strongest winds will occur
on saturday following the cold frontal passage.

* timing...very strong and gusty winds will develop from early
saturday morning through saturday afternoon.

* winds...northwest 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 60 to 70 mph

* impacts...travel in high profile vehicles and light trailers
will likely become difficult. Due to the strong winds there may
be significant blow over risk for high profile vehicles
traveling across the warning area. This includes interstates 80

will be over southeast wyoming and the western nebraska panhandle
through saturday. In addition...there will be a large difference
in pressure at the surface across the region due to the approach
and passage of a fast moving pacific cold front.

Winds will become strong for most of the rest of southeast
wyoming later tonight and continue through saturday.
Meanwhile...winds will become strong for the western nebraska
panhandle and nearby parts of southeast wyoming starting at 5 am
tonight and continuing for the rest of saturday. The strongest
winds will occur late tonight and saturday morning following the
cold frontal passage when gusts as high as 75 mph will be quite
possible.

The national weather service in billings has issued a winter
weather advisory above 3500 feet for snow and blowing snow...which is

* timing...snow will develop this evening behind a strong cold
front. Snow will continue through tonight...tapering off
wednesday morning.

* snow accumulation...2 to 4 inches with locally heavier accumulations
possible. The heaviest snowfall will occur along and west of
i-90.

* wind...north winds 15 to 30 mph...gusts up to 45 mph.

* impacts...icy and snow packed roadways are expected to develop
this evening as snow intensifies. Gusty north winds will result
in blowing and drifting snow reducing visibility and making
travel difficult. This includes portions of i-90 from crow
agency south across sheridan county.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow will cause
travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited

along and west of the laramie range. The strongest winds will
occur from late saturday afternoon through early sunday morning
when sustained wind speeds of 30 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70

mph with occasional gusts to around 60 mph tonight. Locally
stronger gusts are possible in the foothills at elevations above
sheridan.

* timing...strong winds will continue through the night before
decreasing in the morning. The strongest winds will likely occur
between midnight and 6 am.

* impacts...dangerous crosswinds can be expected along interstate 90.
Areas of blowing snow can be expected to cause changing road
conditions and poor visibilities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Winds of these magnitudes can cause property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use
caution until the winds subside.

plains wednesday...

.an increasing low-level pressure gradient will combine with a
very strong upper-level jet stream to produce very strong winds
tonight and wednesday. These strong winds will mainly be found in
wind prone areas through this evening...but will spread across
much of southeast wyoming late tonight and especially on
wednesday. Strong and damaging winds will develop on wednesday
after daybreak in the douglas and lusk areas...and spread across
far southeast wyoming and into the western nebraska panhandle
during the remainder of the morning.
