Default Lander Restaurants?

Friends of ours will be in Lander for a few days soon.

Any suggestions on OK restaurants for reasonably priced breakfast/lunch/dinner? Is there a preferred restaurant for a "special" client dinner? Quality of food at reasonable cost is more important than atmosphere as long as they can have a place to discuss a contract and have a nice meal. Non drinkers at this meeting, so a bar with fou-fou drinks isn't a plus for my friends. Any cuisine will work ... American, or?

Thanks in advance for your help with some local knowledge. I haven't stopped in Lander except for fuel for almost 20 years, so have no idea what's good there these days.

I only know two places to eat in Lander. One is McDonalds.
The other, and I can't recall the name but it's right on the main drag on the way to town, you can get the largest burger of your life if you so desire. Sorry, wasn't there at mealtime usually.
Farther south, over the top of South-Pass, there is a steak-house/restaurant/bar which, again, I can't recall the name of - it's named after that teeny old mining town that isn't there anymore - and I believe that's where folks go for the "night out".
Outside of that, up in Riverton off of the airport road, there's the big ol' bar/restaurant/convention center - I believe it's called the "Valley View" - just follow signs or directions to the airport W/NW of town center and it's set-in on the left almost right across from the airport. Good food - I think they even call some of it "cuisine" which is pretty delicate for Wyoming. Another possibility is the Holiday Inn at Riverton.

I believe it's called the Wagon Wheel. All the way at the end of the main street going toward Washakie. It's/was by the highschool. It has been there for many years. It is like a landmark in lander. Ask for the "wagon wheel" Cheese wheel. Double good burgers and fries too.
Always reminded me of a Reservation "Arnolds" like in happy days show.

Okay, there's definitely more places to eat in Lander than McDonalds! I used to go there all the time, but now I can't remember. I think there's a place called Gannet Grill. I'm not sure if it's new or not.

Some restaurants in Lander (except for fast food)

Cowfish - probably the most 'upscale' place in town. They serve mostly steaks and fish. I went there a couple months ago and it was really good...kindve on the pricey side. This would probably be the best place for a business dinner.

Gannet grill - This restaurant is owned by the same person as the Cowfish. They serve mostly sandwiches and 'bar food' and it is connected to the Lander bar.

Oxbow - pretty comparable to a Perkins.

Sanfords - really neat atmosphere, I have heard (from my mom) the food isn't so great - depending on the day.

Hitching Rack - another steak house, I think it is only open at night. Pretty upscale.

Maverick - low end 'bar food.'

There is a brand new place open up by the Alco store - I have never been there - don't know what it is called.

There is also a Mexican and Chinese restaurant, which I think both are really good.

Most of these places are on main street - which is a whole 9 blocks long!

A report from our friends ...

"Cowfish" ... nice, but very pricey, steakhouse.

"El Sol de Mexico" ... terrible food, very salty, with little flavor to it. Their "salsa" for the chips was about like watery cambells tomato soup with a scant dash of chili powder in it ... you had to really try to find any spice flavor (no heat!), let alone green chiles/onions/tomatoes in it. Their green chili bowl was a thin watery bright green soup with a tablespoon of finely diced pork in it, and the portion size of the bowl wasn't even a half-bowl served. Their rice served was dried out to crunchy, and the refritos were watery without any real flavor. This place made the frozen food case in the supermarket look like gourmet Mexican style food, or McDonalds burritos like really good food. Not!

On a local's suggestion, they went to Hudson for Svilar's. A national treasure of sorts ... excellent service, and a $21.95 T-Bone that was well marbled and must have topped two pounds of steak with a fair sized portion of the loin. The other meal was a $10.95 "chopped steak" that was excellent ground steak, and a portion that was almost 2 and a half pounds! Appetizers for starters .... relish dish, cabbage rolls, ravioli ... were included in the entrees. A bit noisy for the meeting, but the meal was excellent and it's reasonably close to Lander. The tab for four people was under $80.00 and there was lots of food left for the "go" box ....

Default Restaurants in Lander

The COWFISH is IT for me! I have been in Lander 3 times-in different years-and I have tried most of the eateries on Main Street. The Cowfish had the best steaks and great locally brewed beer ! The person who listed those restaurants surely knew what he was talking about! I am from Kansas City, where steaks are highly rated, and I have also lived in Texas-Houston, to be exact-where they have a slew of steakhouses, so I know my steaks! While at the Cowfish I meditated about the great life a free ranging cow has around there..vs. the unhappy poor beasts I saw standing in the baking sun, with no water or pasture available, by the side of the main HWY in Nebraska! I am looking forward to returning to Wyoming and maybe even settling in Lander..providing the housing market improves....

Breadboard subs is great for sandwiches, and way above subway for quality.
