Hello Everyone,

My job has decided to transfer me to work in Ft. Washakie. It is somewhat last minute as my report date is March 4th. Because of this I am somewhat rushing for housing in the area. Some preliminary research has indicated that my main housing options are Lander and Riverton, though I am having a hard time finding any rental information in the area, (along with the fact that It is Friday at 5 o'clock) I am somewhat familiar with Lander having attended a NOLS course years ago, and would be my preferred living location as It is a shorter commute onto the rez.

Being somewhat Unfamiliar I was hoping some of you locals can give some advice on the area, and perhaps some help in getting my hurried search off on the right track.

Thanks!

Heh, an IHS worker?

Lander is indeed the shorter commute, but it's also the more expensive option with fewer choices. Your fastest way of finding Most rentals from a distance will be to contact one of the real estate companies in town. Most rentals are owned by realtors, and the rest seem to be managed by them. There are a couple of apartment complexes (that put you closer to Arapahoe than Ft Washakie) that may not list through them.. not sure. I would avoid the apartments up off South 2nd street though... not exactly well known for quality or quiet/law abiding neighbors (was true in the 80's, 90's and 2000's ~ don't think they'll change).

As for the area.. I love it, wish I were still there (born and raised, moved way for 10 years than back with my wife when she was IHS, then away to her family). Social stuff is centered around kids and church, like all of WY, so if you don't have a foot in one of those it gets a bit dry socially... though as a NOLS Alum, you may have another option too.

Best of luck getting something situated. I'm going to DM you a contact number here in a second.

You can get an internet subscription to Riverton's newspaper, the RANGER. The classifieds will have some rentals available. I like Lander better. Lander is a nicer town with a western feel. Personally, I would rent there. But it is hard to find adds for Lander properties, one would have to go there and see what is available. There are several real estate companies on main street.
