Employment kind of depends on what kind of work is being looked for. However, there are more jobs in Gillette than there are people at the moment. The biggest adjustment coming from Michigan is that it is really dry here compared to there. I would suggest a humidifier in the winter, and a swamp cooler in the summer to help with any sinus problems you might have during the adjustment period.
For shopping, it is always nice to go shopping in the town closest to you (that is after all how they stay open.) However, if that can't be done I recommend going to South Dakota (Sturgis, Spearfish or Rapid City), but at the moment the traffic is terrible in Gillette and I avoid it unless I have no choice!
