Default Upton Wyoming

My husband and I just purchased some land near Upton. We love the land and find the area in general peaceful and beautiful. We are coming from Michigan and understand there is some getting used to with the weather. Can anyone tell me the best way to go for shopping, employment and general interest areas?

i dont think coming from michigan you will have any trouble adjusting to the weather.most employment will be in gillette as will most shopping.rapid city sd is where most major shopping is done.black hills have a lot of things to do if you like the outdoors.when you live in wyoming you learn that most places arent too close to other places so you drive a lot.

Thank you for the response. We are quite excited about coming out there. I have a Sister in Sturgis so I know whre Rapid city is. The times we have been out there have been summer or fall and love it so far.

NewWy is an unknown quantity at this point
Employment kind of depends on what kind of work is being looked for. However, there are more jobs in Gillette than there are people at the moment. The biggest adjustment coming from Michigan is that it is really dry here compared to there. I would suggest a humidifier in the winter, and a swamp cooler in the summer to help with any sinus problems you might have during the adjustment period.

For shopping, it is always nice to go shopping in the town closest to you (that is after all how they stay open.) However, if that can't be done I recommend going to South Dakota (Sturgis, Spearfish or Rapid City), but at the moment the traffic is terrible in Gillette and I avoid it unless I have no choice!

For General Interest; check out http://wyoparks.state.wy.us/ and http://www.sdgfp.info/Parks/Regions/Custer/index.htm Also jewel cave is really close, the hand dug oil well, then there is a cute little log cabin area in upton called old upton (or some such thing) and when they are open they have buggy rides and stuff.
