I've heard the following in several western states, including Wyoming:

"What do you mean, if I hit a cow on the road, I have to pay the farmer!? He should be paying ME! Just look at my BMW/Benz/Lexus/etc! It's wrecked!"

Wrong, sweetheart, you will probably be paying the farmer. That's the law in an open range state.... and yes, this has been tested in court, clear up to the Wyoming state supreme court:

Back in the fall of 2007 I was driving back from Denver to Helena Montana where I lived and spent the night in Sheridan.
As I was checking in the desk clerk and I were interrupted by a panicked traveler yelling "" there's a man with a gun outside!! Call the police!! ""

We were alarmed and both the desk clerk and I cautiously looked outside to see a couple of large four wheel drive trucks with camo clad men taking their rifles out of their truck to take inside to their rooms.

The desk clerk looked at the person that was screaming to call the police and told her in a loud tone "" For Christ's sake woman their hunters!!! "" Where the hell are you from anyway?!?!?! "" She said Brooklyn, NY.

We both walked back to the front desk and the clerk apologized to me for the interruption.

We never did see her again.

My late wife moved here from New Jersey. She was perhaps the smartest person I've ever known, but she had her blond moments. One sunny winter day she came running into the house all a twitter about "something in the sky". I went out to look.

"What?"

She pointed at the moon.

"What?" I repeated.

She pointed again, a little more agitated. "What IS that?"

"The moon?" I asked, thinking there must be something I wasn't seeing.

"It can't be, not in the daytime!"

I am thoroughly enjoying these stories!

I was out at a friend's ranch one day when I lived in WY. We were having a pleasant visit when this car pulls up and a man gets out with a small child around 6 or 7 years of age. the man proceeds to tell the kid to go stand by the "nice cow" so I can get a picture. He is of course totally ignoring our warnings. Luckily our two dogs, who were alot faster than we were, ran and got between the kid and the "nice cow" (AKA BULL) giving us time to get the kid out of there.

Do you think we were thanked? Of course not! We ruined his shot.

"They shot my dog" to which the Justus of The Peace said "well are you going to pay for the lambs your dog killed" A look of shock and horror, and "but they shot my dog"

This one literally made me laugh out loud!

I was herding cows up on the forest one summer and a Ranger stopped by and started laughing. We had been reported for Tieing our horses front feet together. Yes most had figure 8 hobbles on we had a set of walking hobbles on the Bell Mare , and a set of Mormon puzzle meatl hobbles on a old horse but he also had a halter and the lead rope tied down to his hobbles.
