Talking We want to move to Wyoming!!!

My husband and I have been considering relocating to Wyoming. We currently live in Phoenix, Arizona and can't wait to spread our wings and get out of this large city. We have 3 children ages 7, 5, and almost 2.
We are looking for a slower pace life style and friendlier people.. Because if any of you have ever been to Phoenix than you know that you can't find that here. We also need the open spaces and again you can't find that here, the houses are so close together that you could reach out and touch the house next door.
We are really unsure of what area we want to be in but are thinking AROUND Cheyenne. The only thing is my husband and I were both from small towns and we're kind-of hoping to raise our children in a smaller town. Our main thing is we want an area that has great schools. Where the cost of living in managable and it has good job availabilty, something immediate would be awesome!! My husband currently works as a heavy equiptment operator and we run a remodeling company on the side where we do everything from tile to complete remodels. Besides helping with the business I am a stay at home mom. But I am getting ready to start school to get my realitors license.
We also know that when we first get out there we will be unable to purchase a home and would need a 3 bedroom home to rent for the first year. It would need to be somewhere with a large yard.

We also know that during the winter it snows pretty good, which is another one of the reasons why we chose there. I used to live in Ohio and I miss the snow greatly.

Any idea's would be greatly appriciated!!! Thanks a million.

The SE corner of Wyoming has a number of small towns with good schools and houses on parcels of land, while retaining access to the larger economic base of a bigger community.

Try looking at the little towns around Cheyenne ... 15-30 miles out, or the areas surrounding Laramie. Wheatland or Torrington might also be suitable for your needs.

Isn't it windy there though? One thing I can't stand is wind. I can handle snow and winter weather but wind bugs me for some reason.

Depends where you are in the state. I lived down by Medicine Bow for a while and the wind blew every day. Maybe 3 or 4 days a month was it calm.

Here in Sheridan, it's the opposite. We have 4 or 5 days of wind during the month and the rest of the time it's 10 mph or less.

So it very's throughout the state. Just got to find an area that you like and start asking about it.

My husband and I moved from Laveen, Arizona to Buffalo last March. I know exactly what you mean about Phx. We moved for some of those same reasons plus my father lived here. Buffalo is a really small town (4,000) and might be hard for you to find a job, but we go to Sheridan often and it might be a good fit for you and your family. Once you get out of Phx and into Wyoming's clean air, friendliness, and open spaces, you will have a different outlook on life.

I think you'll find an enjoyable part of wyoming....maybe try Green River! I know it is on the other side of the state but it is in a growing area! Rock Springs and Green River are close to each other (about 11 miles) Rock Springs is growing like crazy while Green River is still a quiet place that is great to raise a family!!! You'll find great jobs and your husband can market on the growing economy! And for the record the housing market is making big changes! Look into that part you could also try Evanston!

Thanks to everyone that replied. My husband has heard about the Oil Rig jobs up there and we we're wondering what parts of the state has them.. Even if we have to find other jobs until there is an opening, that is something that he is interested in getting into.

I second Green River! I've lived here all my life and though I complained about it when I was younger, I've come to realize that living in a small town is nice. The winters can be rough, but as they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Anyway, there are plenty of places where your husband could find work. Check out wyomingatwork.com. The schools here are pretty good as well. I graduated from GRHS and worked at Rock Springs High, and I can say that Green River's school system is a lot better. Plus it's cleaner, and the kids over here are nice. There is plenty for your family to do around here, even though some people I know would say otherwise. Anyway, just my humble opinion. Best of luck to you!
