Default Is there an oil jobs boom in Wyoming?

Hello folks,

I recently left the military and trying to move on with my life. What chance do I have of getting a job in the oil&gas industry if I come to Wyoming? (Entry-level) Or should I just head straight to North Dakota instead? I'm still young, only 24, and am looking for some peaceful place to live. I'm sick of not being able to get a real job with decent wage here in CA.

Thank you for reading, any feedbacks are welcome.

I'll jump on OP's bandwagon... Are the oil companies hiring document controllers as well? And how desperate are they

First off, thank you for your service!

Although Wyoming is drilling at any given time, there really isn't a "boom" going on. Wyoming limits permits to keep any one area from booming, it's too hard on local economy, ammenities, etc... They do a much better job of controlling boom and bust cycles.

Contact the oil companies and as them about Wyoming operations. Also, log onto www.wyomingatwork.com and you will see what is available through all of Wyoming's employment offices.

If you are looking for fast pace, high wage, I'd look at North Dakota. If you are looking for long term, steady pace, great lifestyle, then look hard at Wyoming. Good luck!

The big boom is currently taking place in eastern Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. You will want to check there. Towns are very small, and there isn't much to do other then work, and make money. They pay good, but the work is hard.

Go online and check the want ads in the newspapers in Rock Springs(Rocketminer), Casper(Casper Star Tribune) and Gillette(Gillette News Record). And go on Wyoming Workforce and Wyoming at Work online to see what is available.
The boom is in North Dakota right now, but if the housing situation is the same as it was a year or so ago you will be staying in a motel, if you can find a room, or in a camper, fyi.
